About Us

Open Press University of Sussex (OPUS) is a library-based, Diamond Open Access press publishing digital-first books and journals. Showcasing the strengths of the Sussex research community, our publishing programme uses digital platforms to seamlessly embed audiovisual and interactive features in the books, with licences that allow remixing and adaptation where possible. We operate a collaborative publishing experience, working with our authors to achieve their vision through editorial support tailored to their needs.

Our mission is:

  • to innovate with new forms of academic publishing
  • to diversify the scholarly record
  • to enable our authors to expand the reach and impact of their work
  • to foster connection between our authors and their readership.

Inclusivity is at the heart of our open model, driving not only our efforts to expand the reach and impact of our research, but also to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to publish at Sussex. In alignment with the University’s commitment to open research, OPUS aims for a sustainable and non-commercial model of publication, supporting the adoption of OERs and contributing to the wider open book ecosystem.
